Sa-Ra / Heavy D / Kleer / Anthony Hamilton

Sa-Ra has released a new mixtape to wet our appetites for their forthcoming Ubiquity debut… Entitled 'Dark Matter & Pornography' you will find lots of names inside including 50 Cent (spitting over the agent orange beat) N*E*R*D, Jurassic 5, Roots Manuva, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Mitsu... so on and so forth...

The highlight for me personally is the return of the original overweight lover, the one and only Heavy D! The cut entitled I Can't Help The Way also features Anthony Hamilton who did the sexy and sorrowful soulful delight ‘bout Charlene and the hook on Jadakiss’ shave the Bush anthem ‘Why’. Oh and P.Diddy talks over it. Shit is H-O-muthafunkin-T.

Sa-Ra - I Can't Help The Way

The mixtape also includes a bunch of other rarities, remixes, and introludes… such as…

A 2CB Trip with Sa-Ra

On some Jan Hammer Miami Vice channneling shit... with an appropriate track title no less…

And my absolute favorite... Sa-Ra jizzam... the ill cover of Kleer's Tonight… Meshell Ndegeocello on the bass...

Kleer – Tonight (Sa-Ra Remix)

The Sa-Ra remix of Deep Inside of Your Love by Platinum Pied Pipers is on there too… Speaking of P!P!P! they is in San Francisco again this week… first at Amoeba on Haight at 6pm then at Mighty later on… thanks AGAIN to the Fresco crew...

Here are the details:

June 2 - this Thursday @ Mighty - 119 Utah

Platinum Pied Pipers (Ubiquity)
MED (Stones Throw)
DJ Hakobo (Fresco)

Cop the mixtape. Cop the fulllength. Go to the PPP show. See you there.

Also... for those that want to dig deeper... Shafiq from Sa-Ra has been answering a couple great threads on the Okayplayer messageboard here and here. Enjoy.

Stevie Wonder / Boards of Canada / Fat Joe / Codec & Flexor

CRAAAAACK!!!

I wasn’t going to post this, since I try to stick to stuff you are less likely to have heard already but this cuts still a banger in the club. Cool & Dre are on the production this time. They were responsible for the good cut on the Game’s album Hate it or Love it (cop the Mary J. Blige remix) and are getting a lot of hype as the next Timbo-Neptunes-Liljon-Kanye... But I don’t see it… since they don’t really have a style of their own yet. Like Jermaine Dupri… Definately skilled, but he never really defined a sound of his own. If G-Funk was hot. He did that. If Crunk was hot. He did that. If it was early Timbaland style beats… He copped those. Same with Cool & Dre… so far.

Anyway…

The high pitched synth on top of the low slung beat is just illin’ on this. And I dig Fat Joe aka Joey Crack’s flow… Cept his singin’… Guy needs to recognize he he will never be as larynxlly talented as Ja Rule, but one day maybe if he tries real hard, takes a class or two at The BK Community College he can best Nelly’s country singin’ ass.

Course at the end of the day a hot track is still a hot track.

Fat Joe – So Much More

neeeext... this is some ultra rare limited pressing type o shit for yur earhole… It’s one of my all-time fav producers Boards of Canada (under their Hell Interface moniker) remixing Midnight Star! Saaaaaw whaaaa!?!! Yeah I know. Anyway this electro flavored jizzam came out in 1999 on Rob Hall’s SKAM imprint as a very limited 500 copy only release.

Midnight Star – Midas Touch (Hell Interface Remix) (MASK500)

The full 12” consists of nothing but the finest in illegal remixes of pop cuts from David Bowie to Yazoo by cats like Håkan Lidbo and Gescom (Autechre). Hot shit if you can find/afford it. Shit. Buy everything on SKAM and SMAK and MASK and KMAS for that matter. Dayum.

Here is a track by Codec & Flexor. I like it.

Codec & Flexor – Time Has Changed

The track of the week this week has gotta be the new Stevie Wonder (not to be confused with Wevie Stonder). He's back and with a sound that fits quite nicely alongside the whole soul resurgence of late… And yes that is Prince on the guitar and En Vogue (still freakably hot) in the background. Hell the remix even has Q-Tip spitting on it.

Stevie Wonder – So What The Fuss?

Stevie Wonder – So What The Fuss? (Video)

Man… hearing this makes me even more excited for a new album. Hope its dope.

Perhaps an even cooler thing is that this cut has secondary audio channel for the blind… whaa? so if you see it on BET flip your tv to SAC... and you will hear Busta Rhymes narrating whats really goin’ on.

Cop that shit.

Jamiroquai - Feels Just Like It Should / Directed by Joseph Kahn

New Jamiroquai album is on its way soon... here is the lead single and video...

Jamiroquai - Feels Just Like It Should

Good, but not really as slick as a lot of their other stuff. Jamiroquai is just hecka dope... The video is aight... Reminds me too much of that movie.

Jamiroquai - Feels Just Like It Should (Video)

Directed by Joseph Kahn.

Kanye West / Cam'ron / Syleena Johnson

Here is the video for the new joint Down and Out... which is the Kanye West produced cut for Dipset dumbass Cam'ron. Kanye's flow is aight on this one...

Purple is the new Pink.

Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape 07

New Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape went up today...

Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape 07

Check it out, this one is better than the last... and its still FREE. New joints on there by Micatone and 2 Michael Luckner projects - Computerjockey and Guitar, but the standout is the dubby Tubbs cut remixed by Fat Freddy.

Peep it...

Tubbs - Five Days Night (Fat Freddy´s Drop Remake) (Exceptional Records)

Tracks I posted from other releases which are no longer available... here.

Gorillaz / Jneiro Jarel / Deadbeat / Viktor Marek / Jacques Palminger

Here is some of the stuff ive been bangin’ this week…

as far as albums go… It’s been all about Triple P and Demon Dayz from the Platinum Pied Pipers and the Gorillaz respectively.

I was surprised by the new Gorillaz actually… I had it in my head that it was gonna suck... or sound like Dangermouse the entire time. Well of course it doesn’t and it doesn’t. Demon Dayz is the funkin’ shit… Different from the last and friggin' excellent. MF Doom is on there… Hell I don’t even need to post any of it… you’ll see it everywhere else to be sure… Just go buy it.

It is one of the best albums of 2005 so far.

The PPP album is disappointing only in the fact that there aren’t any NEW bangers... I’ve heard pretty much everything on it already at their live shows or in online interviews…

That might sound like I'm not saying its good... I'M NOT. IT IS. The whole thing is quality Detroit soul. Hell, Steve Spacek is on that shit… not to mention its on Ubiquity… COP IT. PLEASE.

Peep their documentary and some live PA video… here

And my old PPP post… here

See you at Mighty (San Francisco) June 2nd.

as far as CHOOOoons go… here are my top 4… these have been bangin’ my eardrums up.

You know I LUH DAT Philly style funk… Here is some new shit from the Jneiro Jarel full length Three Piece Puzzle…

Jneiro Jarel - Do Yo Thang

See him at the Jazz Café in London on May 21st. No U.S. dates yet.

Next up… a cut I haven’t heard in years… San Francisco house producer Hesohi rinsed it when we played at 222 Club last weekend. A gem… a classic... a jazzy ditty…

Van Morrison - Moondance

Earlier this week... I finally hit up Milk for the first time in months, since I’ve been MIA lately… Let me just say Tuesday nights are still the shit. If you got any love for the Roots, Reggae, Dancehall soundsystem vibe, you gotta roll through on a Tuesday night. The Jah Warrior Shelter Hi Fi… the illest soundsystem on the west coast no less… Jah Yzer, Ivier, and Irie Dole brock out… plus its Milk, so it never gets too thugged out. Anyway…

The night prompted me to pull out some reggae summer vibes… so... here is Turbulence flowin’ over the One for the Road riddim produced by Bobby “Digital B” Dixon.

Turbulence - Turn Your Life Around

Beautiful.

Digital dub producer Deadbeat (Scott Monteith of Montreal) finally released a new full length… New World Observer on ~scape. This one is a gem, and different than his previous efforts… more on a minimal Pole sorta vibe and a bit less melodic than the epic Wild Life Documentaries.

Deadbeat - Slow Rot Rhetoric

Without further adieu the CHOOOOOooon of the week...

Viktor Marek & Jacques Palminger with some b-side action on German label Pudel... with a track called Tüdeldub...

Viktor Marek & Jacques Palminger - Tüdeldub (Pudel 2005)

I NEEED the instrumental of this one maaaaaaan... ill dubby electric bidnazz.

BTW, for you SF cats... M.I.A. is doin’ a FREE in store at Amoeba SF tomorrow at 5pm before the sold out show with LCD Soundsystem. If you don’t like her, I suggest peeping it.

See you there.

Nookie Feat. MC System - Atmosphere Prologue

Daaaamn... here are some quality atmospheric vibes from Nookie (Good Looking) and MC System.
